The 41st annual SSE Conference will take place in-person July 23 - 26, 2023, at the Indiana Memorial Union on the Indiana University-Bloomington main campus in Bloomington, Indiana. An Online Conference Encore will take place as a live Airmeet event from October 20-22, 2023.
The theme of the conference is Maverick Science. In a recent paper, Durakiewicz (2022) notes that ‘maverick science’ involves dissent, collaborative effort, and transformative progress, as well as incremental work and paradigm breaking. Here at the SSE, we support and encourage the hallmarks of maverick science: exploratory research, original thinking, and research into unexplained phenomena.
Long talks, Short talks, and Poster presentations will be given among a number of interesting topics such as:
• The nature of consciousness
• New physics, cosmology, and galactic cycles
• Alternative energy, future technology
• Energy healing, healing research, and Bio-energetics
• Psi, mind-matter interactions, Remote Viewing
• NDE, reincarnation, the persistence of consciousness beyond death
• UAPs, UFOs, and other extraterrestrial phenomena
• Divination, astrology, dowsing
• Cryptozoology
• Sociology and philosophy of science
A welcoming reception will take place on Sunday evening, talks will run Monday through Wednesday, and the event will end with a banquet on Wednesday night.
Field Trip
On Tuesday afternoon, we will have a guided tour of the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center (TMBCC), which was founded in 1979 by the Dalai Lama's older brother, Thubten Jigme Norbu (Taktser Rinpoche). Norbu was one of the first high-profile Tibetans to go into exile, and the first to travel to the United States. He served as His Holiness the Dalai Lama's representative to Japan and North America. Throughout his life, Norbu spoke out on Tibetan rights, serving as Professor of Tibetan Studies at Indiana University. The mission of the TMBCC is to preserve Tibetan culture and religion.
The Dalai Lama has supported dialogues with scientists on the nature and functions of the Mind, the convergence between science and spirituality, and the neuroscience of meditative practice. In this tour of the TMBCC, we will get a taste of the Tibetan perspective, visiting the Shrine, two Stupas on the grounds and learning about Tibetan iconography, including the Wheel of Life and the Calm Abiding meditation.
